Umi Survival

There are places where the kayak has died out, but umiaks are still used, for hunting or travel. Leaf through a stack of National Geographics - at least once a year there is an image of a translucent skin boat out in a field of ice. Lots of times it's a picture from Pt. Barrow, where the boats are used for hunting. "Skin boat culture" is alive and well up in the arctic as far as umiaks are concerned.
