The tundra has the same expansive feel and 360 degree sky that the ocean has, but it is an ocean of grass.Tthe land is illusory since it's 50% water. Almost any step can put you in a marsh or at least fill your boots. It is a perfect country for birds, and more species and numbers of waterfowl nest here than you are likely to see in a lifetime elsewhere. There are two sod houses nestled into the hills on our right. We are about 5 miles as the crow flies from Chevak, but the river route takes at least four hours.
