Some Early Pictures of Our Time With Jerome and Amy in Laos |
We spent three days in Laos with Jerome and Amy. Our time was in the capital Vientaine which is a friendly town with very nice people. Laos has a very small tourist industry, most expatriates are working in the country, so it really did feel as though we were traveling off the beaten track. That said, it was easy to get around, find good food, shop etc. and we always felt welcomed. Gene and Stella with their fair skin and hair are considered good luck by the Buddhists so they received a lot of attention and a number of gifts along the way.
Religious monument outside the city.
At one of the temples.
Recent political statue honoring a historical Lao king. A progressive step for the Socialist government.
Negotiating fare for eight on a tuk-tuk. Will we make it up the hill?
OK, so why did I include a picture of a billboard? Maybe because it was the only one?
Gene loved the tuk-tuks. Fair skin and blond and red heads attracted (generally polite) attention most everywhere we went.
