40-Foot Diesel Tug BUSTER

We built this little tug ourselves in 1981-3. The hull is welded steel. The pilothouse is fir and cedar, with teak trim. The main engine is a 60 hp Atlas Imperial diesel engine built in the late 1920's, weighing over four tons, and turning a 32" x 38" propellor. Fuel consumption is 3-4 gph at approximately 5 to 6 knots. The BUSTER is a documented US tug, but we use it only for our own cruising and pleasure use. We have full, standing headroom in the foc'sl, with a double V-berth which converts to a U-shaped settee with table. There is a single 6-foot berth above in the pilot house. A head, shower, wood stove, and modest galley round out the accommodations. Electricity is provided by a 3kw Onan diesel 120v AC light plant.
