Master Scuba Diver

Purpose:
The primary objective of this course is to take the basic diving skills and knowledge that you learned in the Scuba Diver and Advanced classes, and build those skills and knowledge to a much higher level. This course also includes introductions to several diving specialties and an opportunity to learn what it is like to work underwater and perform difficult tasks.

Sample Course Outline:
Session 1 - Classroom

  • Course Orientation - Complete registration forms -Distribute textbook and materials
  • Advanced boat diving techniques
  • Cold water diving environment - tides and currents - kelp - walls - sea mounts
  • Cold water diving considerations - special techniques - limited visibility diving
  • Diving accident causes and prevention
  • Diver rescue techniques

Session 2 - Open Water Diving

  • Dive 1 - boat dive kelp forest - marine life identification - underwater navigation
  • Dive 2 - Breath-hold skin diving and rescue techniques

Session 3 - Classroom

  • Advanced diving physics
  • Advanced diving medicine and physiology
  • Diving first aid and treatment of diving related injuries
  • Oxygen first aid for diving related injuries
  • Deep and decompression diving techniques

Session 4 - Open Water Diving

  • Dive 1 - Deep wall dive - 100 to 130 feet
  • Dive 2 - Simulated decompression dive requiring in-water decompression stops

Session 5 - Classroom

  • Safety regulations for commercial diving operations
  • Surface-supplied diving equipment with voice communication
  • Dive team duty stations and commercial diving operational procedures
  • Underwater search and salvage techniques
  • Salvage law

Session 6 - Open Water Dives

  • Dive 1 - Surface-supplied diving - search patterns and locate object
  • Dive 2 - Surface-supplied diving - salvage project using rigging and lift bags

Session 7 - Classroom

  • Environmental studies - bottom fish research and recovery - Marine ecology
  • Final review and written exam

Session 8 - Open Water Dives

  • Bottom fish survey in a no-take/no fishing zone
  • Bottom fish survey in a control (fishing) zone

Rental equipment, transportation, food and lodging will cost extra. We can assist with arrangements for economical lodging. You will not need a vehicle while on the island.

Enrollment:
To enroll in this program, you must be a certified diver with a minimum of 12 open water dives, two of which may be skin dives and at least 10 must be scuba dives. Because this is a challenging course, you should be in good health and physical fitness. We will run this course with a minimum of two students and there is a maximum limit of six students.

Course Schedule:
This program will require a minimum of four days to complete. We can schedule four to five days in a row, or two long weekends, or most any other combination that fits your schedule as long as we can get all of the students to agree.

We can also add one day and complete a Nitrox class along with the Master Scuba Diver training. When you complete the Nitrox classroom portion prior to the final two Master Scuba Diver open water dives, you can use Nitrox on those dives and complete both requirements at the same time. This combination will save you $80 in overall fees.

Certification:
Upon successful completion of the Master Scuba Diver course, you will receive a NAUI Worldwide Master Scuba Diver Certification. If you add the Nitrox session to this program, you will also receive a NAUI Nitrox Diver Certification.
