One one the most exciting things happening with skin boats right
now is the ressurgence of the umiak, both up north, and in the lower 48.
Here in the upper corner of NW Washington, I know of three builders who are working with these boats:
Corey Freedman in Anacortes, Marc Daniels of Bellingham, and myself, Skip Snaith, on Orcas Island. From conversations, I know that other builders are thinking about these boats as well. People are interested in traditional umiaks, and possible future evolutions too.
Any other builders out there please check in - maybe we can create a registry of new umiaks
