Contour Drawing

Contour drawing forces you to rely on your sense of sight. Draw without lifting your pen from the paper and without looking at the paper. The rule is; you may look at your drawing to get your bearings but you must stop drawing while you are looking at the paper. Draw only while you are looking at the object you are drawing. As you slowly move around the object with your eyes, draw as if your pen were following a small insect crawling over the object. This method circumvents the tendency to draw what you think something looks like and forces you to draw only what you actually see.
